ROVERS SHUTOUT IN FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

BARRIE - The Simcoe County Rovers lost their first game as a franchise on Saturday night, losing 2-0 to Alliance United FC.

The Rovers dropped to 1-1-1 with the loss, while United FC improved to 2-1-0.

United FC jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute on a goal from Atchuthan Sivananthan before Kingsley Belele added to their lead in the 68th minute with a goal of his own.

BIGGEST PLAY OF THE GAME: Sivananthan’s first half goal ended up standing as the game winner for the road side.

BY THE NUMBERS…

0: For the first time this season, the Rovers failed to find the back of the net in a contest.

6: Between the men’s and women’s teams, it took six matches for the Rovers to lose their first game as a franchise.

17: Allowing a goal in the 17th minute on Saturday was the earliest goal the Rovers have allowed all season. Prior to Saturday, the earliest goal they allowed was in the 45th minute against Master’s FA in April.

LOOKING AHEAD: The men return to action on Saturday when they host Darby FC (1-0-1) from J.C. Massie Field in Barrie.

Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
